Shangwei New Materials Subsidiary Qiyuan Xinchuang Settles in Pudong, Chemical Enterprise Crosses Over to Consumer Robots

Qiwai New Materials Technology Co., Ltd.'s robotics subsidiary, Qiyuan Xinchuang (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd., has officially settled in the Zhangjiang Robotics Valley in Pudong, Shanghai. As a key artificial intelligence project of Shanghai Municipality, the project completed its signing ceremony during the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC).

Shangwei New Materials was originally a company specializing in eco-friendly high-performance resins and other composite materials. After establishing its "new materials + embodied AI" dual-wheel drive strategy in 2025, it began entering the personal robot field. The company has currently released two consumer-grade robot products: the small full-body force-controlled humanoid robot Qiyuan Q1, and the deformable personal robot Qiyuan T1.

Qiyuan Xinchuang is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shangwei New Materials, undertaking consumer-grade Embodied AI business. According to the company's disclosure, Qiyuan Q1 and Qiyuan T1 have won some international awards and have been featured on CCTV's "News Broadcast" and other media. Currently, the company has launched offline experience stores in five cities: Shanghai, Shenzhen, Xi'an, Xiamen, and Guangzhou, with mass production work still underway.

Three-Year Plan: Foundation Models, Product Lines, and Testing Bases

With this settlement, Qiyuan Xinchuang announced its three-year follow-up plan, which mainly includes four directions:

First, build a research and development center to develop the fully self-developed foundational model Primemind.

Second, build a product design innovation center to maintain the pace of launching no fewer than two new consumer robot products every year.

Third, build a full-scenario testing and assembly base to aggregate end-to-end data.

Fourth, establish an ecosystem co-construction and sharing base to host the development of expanded application scenarios based on Qiyuan robots.

The company stated that it plans to continuously invest in R&D expenses over the next three years, with all the aforementioned construction projects located in Zhangjiang Robot Valley.

Cross-industry Leap and Unverified Links

The leap from chemical new materials to consumer-grade robotics represents a significant industry span. Whether Shangwei New Materials' technological accumulation in composite materials can be transferred to robotics hardware and algorithms remains an area for observation.

Currently, Qiyuan Q1 and Qiyuan T1 have entered the public demonstration stage, and the deployment of offline experience stores indicates initial moves by the company in sales channels. However, between product display and scaled consumer delivery, key links such as mass production capability, cost control, supply chain management, and after-sales service systems have not been disclosed with specific timelines or parameters by the company. Product pricing and the official launch date have also not been announced.
